Mahindananda foundation property returned to SL railways department after handover process

The property belonging to the Mahindananda Aluthgamage Foundation, which had been operating on a lease basis for nearly 20 years, has been handed back to the Sri Lanka Railways Department.

The foundation had functioned on land owned by the Railway Department, which had remained under a long-term lease arrangement.

During a District Coordination Committee meeting held in December last year, officials instructed that steps be taken within a month to reclaim the land and related premises for the Railway Department.

Accordingly, the land and buildings were officially handed over on Friday morning to Railway Department officials by Chamika Dharmathilaka, Secretary of the Mahindananda Foundation.

However, it was also noted that a valid lease agreement still exists in relation to the property.

Authorities have stated that the reclaimed land is expected to be developed in the future for a public market and other community-oriented facilities.
