Mahinda Rajapaksa must pay Rs. 4.6M rent or vacate residence: president

President Anura Kumara Dissanayake announced that the monthly rent for former President Mahinda Rajapaksa’s residence has been set at Rs. 4.6 million.

He explained that Mahinda Rajapaksa must either pay the rent or vacate the residence.

Under the Act, former Presidents are entitled to either a residence or one-third of their salary as an allowance.

The government will provide Mahinda Rajapaksa Rs. 30,000, equivalent to one-third of his salary.

If Rajapaksa chooses to remain in the residence, he will need to personally cover the Rs. 4.6 million rent.

These remarks were made during a public meeting in Katukurunda.
