Long queues persist at immigration department over passport delays

Long queues persist at the Immigration and Emigration Department as people wait to obtain passports, with issues still unresolved.

An official revealed that applicants requiring one-day service passports for urgent departures must report to a special committee with their documents.

The committee conducts interviews and assigns new dates based on the urgency of the applicant’s needs, further contributing to the lengthy queues.

Many applicants complained of waiting over 24 hours, even after paying Rs. 20,000 for the one-day service, enduring uncomfortable conditions like sleeping on the floor.

Some officials and security personnel were reported to lack experience, causing additional confusion and frustration for those in the queues.

The public, including prominent individuals and religious leaders, expressed their dissatisfaction over the lack of assistance and prolonged delays at the department.
