Limansa Tillakaratne was named Player of the Match for her outstanding all-round performance in Sri Lanka’s historic victory over Australia in the Under-19 Girls’ World Cup Super 6 stage.
The Sri Lankan girls’ team defeated the Australian girls’ team by 12 runs in the final Super 6 match yesterday (29th), marking the first time a Sri Lankan women’s team has beaten Australia in a World Cup match.
Defending a target of 100 runs, Sri Lanka restricted Australia to 87 for 8 in 20 overs, thanks to exceptional spin bowling. Chamudi Prabodha, Pramudi Metsara, and Aseni Thalagune took two wickets each, while Tillakaratne claimed one crucial wicket.
Tillakaratne dismissed Australia’s top scorer Kaomi Bray (27) and also contributed to the field by running out another batter and taking a catch.
Despite this loss, Australia will face South Africa in the semi-finals on the 31st, while India will take on England in the other semi-final.
