An attorney who had represented underworld figure Karandeniya Sudda and his wife were shot dead on the evening of February 13 near a supermarket in Akuregoda, according to police.
The couple were inside their vehicle when two unidentified gunmen arrived in another car and opened fire before fleeing the scene. Police believe the attack may be linked to suspicions that the lawyer had shared information with a rival organised crime group led by Loku Patty.
The victims were identified as lawyer Mallawarachchi, a resident of Pitigala, and his wife. Authorities have launched investigations to identify and arrest those responsible for the killing.
