Lawyer Gunaratne Wanninayake files writ petition to block arrest

Attorney-at-law Gunaratne Wanninayake has filed a writ petition before the Court of Appeal seeking an order to prevent his arrest in connection with a recent incident involving a Police Constable at the Mount Lavinia Court premises.

The petition was filed yesterday, requesting that his arrest be blocked until he is formally produced in court.

The matter is scheduled to be heard before the Court of Appeal today (15th).

Wanninayake was involved in an alleged altercation with a Police Constable at the Mount Lavinia Magistrate’s Court premises on 10th of October .

Following the incident, the police constable was arrested and remanded over allegations of assaulting Wanninayake during a dispute regarding the removal of a vehicle from the court premises. The constable was granted bail on Monday.
