All opposition parties have unanimously decided to gather in Colombo today (26th), putting aside political and party differences to show solidarity with former President Ranil Wickremesinghe, who remains in remand custody following his arrest on Friday (22nd), UNP Assistant Leader and former Minister Akila Viraj Kariyawasam announced.
Speaking to the media after a special discussion with representatives of various opposition parties, Kariyawasam stressed that the refusal of bail to the former President indicates that even basic bail conditions were disregarded by the police.
He further described Wickremesinghe’s arrest as a blatant act of political repression.
Meanwhile, SLFP General Secretary Duminda Dissanayake also urged that everyone who values democracy should come together in Colombo today.
