The Labor government has launched a new initiative to provide free pads and tampons across Melbourne.
Over 20,000 free packets of sanitary products have already been distributed, according to Women’s Affairs Minister Natalie Hutchins.
The program is expected to save Victorians thousands of dollars in essential health expenses.
As part of the initiative, 30 vending machines will be installed throughout Melbourne.
The plan also includes expanding the number of vending machines to around 700 across the entire state of Victoria.
Minister Hutchins stated that the program will also be extended to government schools to support students in need.
