A Melbourne youth education institution has been fined $45,000 after a lab experiment went terribly wrong.
In 2022, a student and a teacher at Chabad Youth in St Kilda East suffered serious injuries during the experiment.
An investigation found that Chabad Youth Education lacked proper safety measures to mitigate risks in the lab.
It was also revealed that neither the student nor the teacher were wearing essential personal protective equipment, such as gloves or fire-resistant jackets.
Chabad Youth, Australia’s largest Jewish youth organization, educates over 2,000 young people annually through after-school clubs, weekend programs, and camps.
