Former Sri Lanka captain Kumar Sangakkara said Sri Lanka’s failure to read the match situation and the conditions at Pallekele contributed to their 51-run defeat to England cricket team in the Super Eight match of the 2026 ICC T20 World Cup in Kandy.
Sangakkara criticised the batting approach, particularly Kamil Mishara’s lack of intent during the run chase, noting that the team failed to adjust to the pitch and match situation.
In a post on X, he said Sri Lanka’s bowlers showed good planning and execution, but the batters fell short. He added that hard-handed stroke play, poor game awareness, and Mishara’s approach ultimately cost Sri Lanka the match.
Sri Lanka were bowled out for 95 in 16.4 overs while chasing a target of 147, losing the match by 51 runs.
