The Krashennikov Volcano on Russia’s Kamchatka Peninsula has erupted for the first time in over 600 years.
The eruption occurred on August 2, 2025, following a powerful magnitude 8.8 earthquake that struck the region on July 30.
The volcanic eruption sent ash clouds soaring 5 to 6 kilometers into the sky, marking a dramatic return to activity after centuries of silence.
This is the first recorded eruption of Krashennikov since the major seismic event earlier in the week, raising concerns about continued volcanic and geological instability in the area.
Authorities are closely monitoring the situation, as the combination of seismic and volcanic activity poses risks to nearby communities and air traffic.
