Katunayake airport adds new check-in counters

In response to the rise in tourist arrivals, a decision has been made to add at least 20 more check-in counters at Katunayake Airport.

The decision was announced following a special discussion led by the Minister of Civil Aviation, Bimal Rathnayake, at the airport.

An inspection was conducted to identify suitable locations for the new check-in counters, according to a statement from the Ministry of Civil Aviation.

Minister Rathnayake also instructed authorities to expand airport facilities as much as possible to accommodate the growing number of tourists.

The government aims to attract 12 million air passengers by 2028 and plans to invite organizations from other international airports to Sri Lanka to collaborate on this effort.

The Ministry emphasized that improving airport infrastructure is a key part of boosting the tourism sector, a vital source of revenue for the country.
