

The newly appointed Consul General-designate of Sri Lanka in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, M.T. Mohamed Laffar, officially assumed duties at the Sri Lanka Consulate General on Monday.

According to the Consulate General, his assumption of office was marked by a simple ceremony organized by consular staff.
In his address, Justice Laffar stressed the importance of providing efficient consular and employment welfare services for Sri Lankans living in Jeddah and the wider Western Region of Saudi Arabia.
He also highlighted the need to further strengthen trade and investment relations between Sri Lanka and Saudi Arabia through renewed diplomatic and economic engagement.
Justice Laffar brings over 35 years of judicial experience, having served in several senior positions in Sri Lanka’s legal system, most recently as Acting President of the Court of Appeal.
He has also served as Secretary to the Judicial Service Commission and as a visiting lecturer at the Sri Lanka Law College, contributing to legal education and judicial administration.
Known for his efficiency, he previously set a record in 2007 by delivering 120 orders and judgments in a single day, reflecting his commitment to reducing judicial delays.
Justice Laffar holds degrees from the University of Peradeniya and the Open University of Sri Lanka and is an Attorney-at-Law of the Sri Lanka Law College.
