
Senior Sri Lankan journalist Chamuditha Samarawickrama has been provided with additional police security following increased threats to his life and the mysterious deaths of four of his interviewees.
The Acting IGP confirmed that police security had been assigned to Chamuditha Samarawickrama. The journalist also confirmed to Newswire that he has been provided with four MSD officials for protection.
In recent times, four individuals interviewed by Samarawickrama have been killed under mysterious circumstances. The latest incident, a shooting in Middeniya, raised further concerns, prompting the journalist to request security from authorities.
Addressing the issue in Parliament, Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa urged authorities to strengthen security for judges and, in particular, journalists. He emphasized the need to protect journalists like Chamuditha Samarawickrama, who are currently facing serious threats.
