Johnston clarifies Sampath Manamperi is not his coordinating secretary

Former Minister Johnston Fernando yesterday rejected claims that Sampath Manamperi served as his Coordinating Secretary.

Speaking at a ceremony to present appointment letters to Kurunegala District Divisional Organisers of the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP), held under the leadership of the party’s National Organiser Namal Rajapaksa, Fernando said the allegations were false and defamatory.

He further stated that he was prepared to take maximum legal action against those spreading such misinformation.

The Walasmulla Magistrate’s Court recently granted permission to detain and question Manamperi—who is currently in remand custody—for 90 days following the discovery of two containers of chemicals suspected to be used in the production of the drug “ice.”
