A 37-year-old man from Kancheepuram district, wanted in multiple job scam cases across Tamil Nadu, was arrested at the Nagapattinam port while attempting to flee to Sri Lanka by ferry.
The suspect, identified as Kirubakaran of Prem Nagar, Pozhichalur, is a known fraudster accused of duping several young job seekers by promising overseas employment opportunities.
Several police stations had registered cases against him, involving the defrauding of job aspirants out of crores of rupees.
One such case was filed by the Nagapattinam district crime branch, following a complaint by Banumathi and others, who claimed Kirubakaran collected ₹10.5 lakh from them under the pretense of securing foreign jobs.
Authorities had been on the lookout for him, and on Sunday, customs officials detained him during a routine security check at the Nagapattinam port.
He was handed over to the Nagapattinam Town Police and subsequently transferred to the district crime branch for further investigation.
