

An Assistant Manager of a foreign employment agency was arrested on suspicion of defrauding an individual of Rs. 945,000 by falsely promising him a job in Romania.

The arrest took place during a raid at the agency’s office in Narahenpita, the Sri Lanka Bureau of Foreign Employment (SLBFE) said.
The complainant, a youth from Bandarawela, reported that the suspect had promised him a factory assistant position in Romania and had been collecting money from him repeatedly since 2023.
The foreign employment agency operates under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment, and Tourism. At the time of the arrest, the suspect was serving as Assistant Manager in the agency’s IT division.
The suspect is scheduled to appear before the Homagama Magistrate’s Court yesterday.
