
Two security officers assigned to the Swiss Ambassador’s official residence in Colombo, including the Chief of the Security Post, have been arrested by Kollupitiya Police in connection with a jewellery theft worth Rs. 4.5 million, according to newspaper.
The stolen items included deeply personal pieces such as the Ambassador’s wedding ring and a ring that belonged to her late father.
A locksmith from Kompanna Veediya was also taken into custody for allegedly duplicating the key used to access the safe.
Police recovered the stolen jewellery from the main suspect’s residence in Weligama, where it had been hidden.
The recovered items included several gold and gem-studded pieces: a diamond-studded ring, an emerald ring, a ruby ring, a gold necklace, a white gold bracelet, a gold pendant, a pair of sapphire-studded earrings, and an Omega Ladymatic wristwatch.
