The Government of Japan has pledged JPY 300 million in grant assistance to provide state-of-the-art fire trucks to Sri Lanka, enhancing disaster response capabilities in the country’s Export Processing Zones (EPZs).
This initiative aims to create a safer business environment and support economic and social stability.
On March 20, Japan’s Ambassador Akio Isomata and Sri Lanka’s Finance Secretary K. M. M. Siriwardana signed and exchanged notes in Colombo to formalize the grant assistance.
EPZs play a vital role in Sri Lanka’s economy by attracting investment and fostering industrial growth.
However, increasing fire hazards and emergencies threaten their operations.
The advanced Japanese fire trucks will strengthen EPZs’ emergency response, protecting businesses, workers, and local communities.
This project highlights Japan’s continued commitment to addressing Sri Lanka’s socio-economic challenges and promoting sustainable development.
