
The Ambassador of Japan to Sri Lanka, Isomata Akio, revealed that discussions are currently taking place with the Sri Lankan government to resume projects that had been temporarily halted.
He shared this update during a meeting with the Speaker of Parliament, Dr. Jagath Wickramaratne, on January 6. The Secretary General of Parliament, Mrs. Kushani Rohanadeera, was also present at the meeting.
During their discussion, the Japanese Ambassador conveyed his best wishes to the Speaker and the government, emphasizing the longstanding relationship between Japan and Sri Lanka. He expressed his commitment to further strengthening these ties and supporting Sri Lanka’s development.
The Ambassador also expressed hope to expedite the construction of a new terminal at Bandaranaike International Airport. Both the Speaker and the Ambassador acknowledged the importance of eradicating corruption and fostering national reconciliation in Sri Lanka.
The Speaker took the opportunity to express gratitude for Japan’s support in funding various projects benefiting the Sri Lankan people and reiterated his intention to revive the Sri Lanka-Japan Parliamentary Friendship Association to deepen parliamentary relations between the two nations.
