Japan establishes mobile field hospital in Chilaw to assist flood-affected communities

Japan’s Disaster Relief Team (JDR) has set up a fully equipped mobile field hospital at the Chilaw Police Grounds to provide urgent medical care to communities affected by the recent floods.

The facility has been operational since December 4 and will continue to offer services until December 15.

Health and Mass Media Minister Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa inspected the field hospital today and conveyed Sri Lanka’s appreciation to the Government of Japan and the JDR for their timely assistance during the emergency.

The Type 1 mobile field hospital operates daily from 9.00 a.m. to 7.00 p.m. and is capable of treating more than 100 patients each day.

It caters to residents of Chilaw and surrounding areas, helping to ease the strain on local healthcare services while the Chilaw District General Hospital remains partially affected by floodwaters.
