Jaffna international cricket stadium goes for a six

ITAK General Secretary M. A. Sumanthiran told the media that the land allocated for the proposed international cricket stadium was submerged during the recent floods, raising serious concerns about its suitability.

He said environmental experts have also pointed out that the land is not appropriate for the construction of a cricket ground, and as a result, several objections have been raised against the project.

The foundation stone for Sri Lanka’s seventh international cricket stadium, which was planned to include floodlights, was laid by President Anura Kumara Dissanayake in September this year.

The stadium was to be built on a 48-acre plot of land and was designed to feature ten pitches with an 80-metre boundary.
