Jaffna court orders former president to file affidavit on alleged death threats

The Jaffna Magistrate has ordered former President Gotabaya Rajapaksa to submit an affidavit detailing the death threats he claims to be facing, before 6th of February 2026.

The directive was issued after Rajapaksa informed the court that he was unable to appear in person due to these threats.

He was scheduled to appear before the Jaffna Magistrate in connection with a case involving the disappearance of Frontline Socialist Party (FSP) activists Lalith Kumar and Kugan Weeraraju, who were abducted on December 10, 2011. FSP Secretary for Education Affairs, Pubudu Jayagoda, who was present in court, reiterated the long-standing demand for justice regarding the activists’ disappearance.
