A protest is scheduled to take place in Colombo on Thursday 24th of April organized by Allied Health Sciences graduates and the Inter-University Students’ Federation (IUSF).
The demonstration is aimed at demanding the abolition of unregulated institutions that offer health-related degrees.
Organizers argue that these so-called “degree shops” pose a threat to public safety by producing unqualified healthcare professionals.
They also claim that such institutions degrade the overall quality of the country’s healthcare system.
Additionally, the credibility of degrees issued by state universities is being undermined by these unregulated programs, protestors said.
The protest calls on authorities to take immediate and strict action against unauthorized private health-related degree programs.
Students and graduates from across the country are expected to join the protest in solidarity.
