
Italy’s Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs, Maria Tripodi, is scheduled to arrive in Sri Lanka today (September 3rd of September ) for an official visit.
The Deputy Minister will remain on the island until 5th of September the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment and Tourism said in a statement. This visit marks the highest-level Italian delegation to Sri Lanka in nearly a decade, the Ministry noted.
During her visit, Deputy Minister Tripodi will co-chair the inaugural session of the Sri Lanka–Italy Political Consultations alongside Deputy Minister Arun Hemachandra. A Memorandum of Understanding on the Establishment of a Political Consultations Mechanism is expected to be signed, providing a structured framework for dialogue between the two countries.
Deputy Minister Tripodi is also scheduled to meet Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya and hold discussions with Foreign Minister Vijitha Herath. Diplomatic relations between Sri Lanka and Italy were established in 1952, the statement added.
