Iran has reportedly asked Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and Oman to urge U.S. President Donald Trump to influence Israel to agree to an immediate ceasefire, in exchange for Tehran’s flexibility in nuclear negotiations, according to Iranian and regional sources.
Gulf leaders and senior diplomats were engaged in intense weekend diplomacy, contacting Tehran, Washington, and each other to prevent further escalation of the conflict between Israel and Iran.
One Iranian source stated that Iran is prepared to show flexibility in nuclear talks if a ceasefire can be achieved.
A Gulf source close to government officials said the Gulf States are increasingly alarmed that the conflict could spiral out of control.
Qatar, Oman, and Saudi Arabia have appealed to the U.S. to press Israel to halt hostilities and to resume nuclear talks with Iran.
The White House and U.S. State Department have not yet responded to requests for comment on the reported diplomatic efforts.
