Iran, Sri Lanka hold talks on rescue of crew after US strike on warship

Iran’s Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi held a telephone discussion with Sri Lanka’s Foreign Minister Vijitha Herath regarding the recent escalation in the Middle East and what Iran described as “military aggression” by the United States and Israel.

During the conversation, Araghchi outlined the latest developments following the attacks by the United States and Israel against Iran, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Iran.

He also thanked Sri Lanka for assisting in the rescue of crew members from the Iranian naval vessel IRIS Dena after it was struck on March 4. In addition, he expressed appreciation for Sri Lanka’s role in facilitating the repatriation of the remains of 84 sailors who were killed in the attack.

Meanwhile, reports indicate that the United States has urged Sri Lanka not to repatriate the surviving Iranian sailors who were rescued following the strike.
