Iran’s central military command has announced the closure of the strategically important Strait of Hormuz to all maritime traffic, citing alleged violations of a recent agreement between Tehran and Washington.
According to Iran’s state-run media, the move is a response to what officials describe as repeated breaches of the memorandum of understanding by the United States and Israel.
The Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters warned that the closure is only the first step and signaled that further measures could be taken if the situation continues.
Iranian authorities also pointed to ongoing Israeli military operations in southern Lebanon as evidence that the agreement is not being respected.
Foreign media reports indicated that at least 32 people were killed in attacks in southern Lebanon since dawn, further escalating regional tensions.
The announcement raises concerns over global energy supplies and maritime security, as the Strait of Hormuz remains one of the world’s most important oil shipping routes.
