India’s consent needed to reveal MoUs – cabinet spokesman

Cabinet Spokesman Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa stated that all seven memoranda of understanding (MoUs) signed with India will be presented in Parliament.

He explained that disclosure may take time, as the consent of both India and Sri Lanka is required for releasing certain details.

Addressing a media query, Dr. Jayatissa clarified that only MoUs were signed, and the government will make all relevant information available in Parliament.

When asked about the defence cooperation agreement and the issue of Chinese vessels, he did not confirm any such restriction but emphasized transparency.

He also noted that those seeking immediate access to the MoUs can file a Right to Information (RTI) request.

The MoUs were approved by the Attorney General and followed thorough consultations with the relevant ministries, the Minister added.
