
A Sri Lankan Parliamentary delegation, led by Deputy Speaker Dr. Rizvie Salih, is currently visiting India to participate in the PRIDE Capacity Building Program.
During the visit, the delegation met with India’s External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar and Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla.
Dr. Jaishankar expressed appreciation for the Sri Lankan delegation’s condemnation of terrorism and their condolences regarding the Pahalgam attack.
He emphasized that the talks reaffirmed India’s Neighbourhood First policy and strong people-to-people ties with Sri Lanka.
Dr. Jaishankar also reiterated India’s continued commitment to Sri Lanka’s development and progress.
In a separate meeting, the delegation called on Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, who underscored the shared cultural, spiritual, and democratic bonds between the two nations.
Om Birla thanked the Sri Lankan MPs for their solidarity with India in its fight against terrorism.
He stressed that terrorism is a global threat and called for democratic nations to unite in addressing it collectively.
Discussions also focused on enhancing parliamentary cooperation, especially through digital innovation and legislative capacity building.
Speaker Birla praised the growing collaboration between India and Sri Lanka in areas like fintech, digital infrastructure, and cross-border connectivity.
