
An Indian national was arrested for attempting to smuggle a consignment of Kush Cannabis worth over Rs. 80 million into Sri Lanka.
The suspect arrived at Katunayake International Airport at around 9:45 a.m. yesterday (14th) and remained at the terminal before his scheduled return to Madurai, India.
According to the Police Narcotics Bureau, officers became suspicious of the suspect’s luggage. A search conducted with the assistance of a police K9, Randy, led to the discovery of the drugs.
The consignment contained a total of eight kilograms and 542 grams of Kush Cannabis.
The 33-year-old suspect, a resident of Chennai, is set to be produced before the Negombo Magistrate’s Court.
