
India’s High Commissioner to Sri Lanka, Santosh Jha, recently met with Speaker of Parliament Dr. Jagath Wickramaratne at the Parliamentary premises.
During the meeting, Jha extended New Year wishes to Dr. Wickramaratne and emphasized the strong bilateral ties between India and Sri Lanka.
High Commissioner Jha invited the Speaker to visit India officially, stressing the importance of promoting inter-parliamentary collaboration.
He also shared India’s plans to assist Sri Lanka’s Parliament through training and capacity-building programs for newly elected members and parliamentary staff.
Jha further expressed hope for the Speaker’s leadership in reviving the Sri Lanka-India Parliamentary Friendship Association in the Tenth Parliament.
He also suggested closer cooperation between the Women Parliamentarians’ groups of both nations to enhance women’s roles in policymaking.
Speaker Dr. Wickramaratne acknowledged the historical and cultural connections between the two countries and expressed gratitude for India’s ongoing support in various sectors.
The discussion also covered key topics such as economic development, digitalization, and regional cooperation.
The meeting was attended by the Secretary General of Parliament, Mrs. Kushani Rohanadeera.
