A shipment of 38,000 metric tonnes of petroleum, including 20,000 MT of diesel and 18,000 MT of petrol, is scheduled to arrive in Colombo today (28) following high-level discussions between India and Sri Lanka.

According to the Indian Commission in Sri Lanka, Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a telephone conversation with President Anura Kumara Dissanayaka on March 24 to discuss the situation.
A day earlier, Indian External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar also held talks with Sri Lanka’s Foreign Minister Vijitha Herath.
Lanka IOC had initially secured fuel supplies for March from the Middle East and Singapore, but suppliers later invoked force majeure due to supply disruptions and vessel unavailability linked to the ongoing regional conflict.
In response, Sri Lanka requested emergency fuel support from India through Indian Oil Corporation, with the current shipment forming part of that assistance.
The Government of India, through Lanka IOC, has extended timely support to ensure uninterrupted fuel supplies in Sri Lanka, helping the country navigate challenges caused by global energy market disruptions.
