Transport Minister Bimal Ratnayake said that increasing the daily wages of plantation workers has become a significant challenge for the government.

Speaking to the media after an inspection tour of the Nanu Oya Railway Station, the Minister said that both the Ministry of Plantation Industries and the Ministry of Finance are actively involved in resolving this issue.

Although plantation workers have long been demanding higher daily wages from successive governments, their demands have largely been ignored.

The current administration, led by the National People’s Power Party, promised wage increases before both the presidential and parliamentary elections.
