Colombo is on high alert as rising water levels in the Kelani River have breached the Ambatale Flood Control Barrier.
Authorities have issued an urgent evacuation order for residents in low-lying areas of Malabe and Kaduwela, warning of the increasing risk of severe flooding.
The Colombo District Secretary confirmed that the situation is rapidly worsening.
Officials are urging the public to evacuate without delay, stressing that remaining in vulnerable areas could result in serious consequences.
This development follows continuous heavy rainfall in the region, which has significantly increased the risk of flash floods and landslides.
