Dr. Gita Gopinath, the First Deputy Managing Director (FDMD) of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), is scheduled to visit Sri Lanka from 15th to 16th of June 2025, the Central Bank of Sri Lanka (CBSL) announced.
This marks a significant milestone, as it will be the first visit by a serving FDMD of the IMF to Sri Lanka since 2005.
During her visit, Dr. Gopinath will serve as the guest of honour at the high-level conference titled ‘Sri Lanka’s Road to Recovery: Debt and Governance’, to be held on June 16, 2025. The event is jointly organized by the Ministry of Finance, the Central Bank, and the IMF.
The conference comes at the halfway point of Sri Lanka’s IMF-supported reform programme and aims to review the country’s progress in restoring macroeconomic stability, advancing debt restructuring, and implementing governance reforms, while also highlighting the challenges that lie ahead.
Dr. Gopinath is also expected to hold bilateral meetings with key Sri Lankan authorities and stakeholders to discuss the IMF’s ongoing engagement with the country.
