An unauthorised election pamphlet targeting independent MP Allegra Spender is under investigation by the Australian Electoral Commission (AEC).
Over 47,000 unapproved flyers were distributed in the eastern Sydney electorate of Wentworth, breaching Australia’s electoral laws.
The pamphlet claims to represent the people of Wentworth but lacks the required authorisation, making its source unclear.
The AEC confirmed it has received complaints and is now working to identify those responsible, who may face heavy fines.
The pamphlet accuses Spender of misleading the electorate, a claim she strongly denies.
Spender described the material as “false, misleading, and offensive” and encouraged anyone with information to report it.
She criticised the smear campaign, saying voters deserve constructive ideas, not unlawful attacks.
Wentworth, once a safe Liberal seat, became a marginal seat after Spender’s 2022 win, making it a key battleground for the upcoming May 3 poll.
