
A well-known tusker named ‘Unicorn,’ residing in Minneriya National Park, has been found dead after being shot by unidentified individuals, Environment Minister Dr. Dammika Patabendi revealed in Parliament yesterday.
During a parliamentary debate, the Minister stated that the elephant was likely shot on March 15, and its carcass was discovered by wildlife officials on March 17.
Dr. Patabendi further noted that the Department of Forest Conservation has launched a thorough investigation into the incident. Authorities are actively working to identify and apprehend those responsible for the killing of the beloved tusker, a well-known figure in the national park.
