ICC releases latest batting rankings

Further recognition has come for Indian star Rishabh Pant, who has achieved a new career-best rating in the latest ICC Men’s Test Batter Rankings.

Pant climbed to sixth place overall following his twin centuries—134 and 118—during the opening Test against England, despite India suffering a five-wicket defeat. His new rating of 801 points marks a personal best and places him just 88 points behind top-ranked batter Joe Root.

Although Pant is still one spot short of his career-high ranking of fifth, which he held in 2022, his current form highlights his resurgence on the international stage.

Joe Root remains at No. 1 in the Test batting rankings after scores of 28 and 53 not out in the Headingley Test, with fellow England batter Harry Brook in second place, just 15 rating points behind.

England opener Ben Duckett also hit a new career high, moving to eighth overall after a match-winning 149 in the second innings at Leeds.

Australia’s Travis Head rose three places to break into the top 10, now ranked 10th following two half-centuries in the first Test against the West Indies in Barbados, which Australia won by 159 runs.

Sri Lanka’s Pathum Nissanka made one of the biggest jumps, climbing 14 spots to 17th after a superb 158 in the victory over Bangladesh in Colombo. Teammate Kusal Mendis also rose four places to reach 30th.

South African youngster Lhuan-dre Pretorius made his rankings debut at 68th following his century against Zimbabwe.

In the bowling rankings, India’s Jasprit Bumrah remains No. 1 after his five-wicket haul at Headingley. Australia’s Josh Hazlewood moved up one spot to fourth, while West Indies’ Jayden Seales advanced to ninth. Sri Lanka’s Prabath Jayasuriya also climbed one place to joint 14th after his five-wicket performance against Bangladesh.

Among all-rounders, India’s Ravindra Jadeja holds on to the top spot despite a modest performance against England. South Africa’s Wiaan Mulder moved up seven places to joint 15th, while Corbin Bosch surged 42 places to 19th after both scored centuries against Zimbabwe.
