How to claim your share of $2.6 billion in unclaimed funds

More than $2.6 billion in unclaimed money is currently being held by state governments across Australia, waiting to be claimed.

Australians are being urged to take a few minutes to check if they are eligible to receive a portion of these funds. The total includes share dividends, trust accounts, refunds, commissions, deceased estates, and money from a variety of other sources.

Funds are often lost due to changes in name or address, making it important for individuals to actively search for any unclaimed money they may be owed.

Here is how residents in each state and territory can check and claim their share:

New South Wales – Revenue NSW maintains an Unclaimed Money Register and offers a free online service to search for and claim lost cash.
Queensland – The Queensland Public Trustee administers unclaimed money and provides guidance on how to search and claim funds on its website.
Victoria – The State Revenue Office of Victoria runs the Unclaimed Money Register and offers an online search tool to help individuals locate lost cash.
Australian Capital Territory (ACT) – The Public Trustee and Guardian for the ACT manages unclaimed money, with a smart online form to search for available funds.
South Australia – The Department of Treasury and Finance handles unclaimed money and maintains a searchable online database.
Western Australia – The Department of Treasury manages unclaimed funds and provides a simple online tool to locate and claim lost money.
Northern Territory – Unclaimed money is administered by the Territory Revenue Office, the Department of Treasury and Finance, and the Public Trustee.
Tasmania – The Department of Treasury and Finance keeps track of unclaimed funds and provides instructions for claiming them via its website.

Australians are encouraged to check the relevant state or territory database to see if they are owed any portion of this $2.6 billion.
