Health officials have warned that the ongoing rains have heightened the risk of dengue and chikungunya outbreaks.
Chamil Muthukuda, Secretary of the Public Health Inspectors Association, stated that both diseases are spread by the same type of mosquito.
He noted that the long weekend and school holidays have led many people to leave their homes without cleaning, resulting in an increase in mosquito breeding sites.
As a preventive measure, the public is being urged to regularly clean their surroundings to help control the spread of these diseases.
