Sri Lanka has made all necessary preparations to respond to any potential risks associated with the Ebola virus, Public Health Specialist Dr. Thushani Dabarera said.

Speaking at a media briefing on the global Ebola situation, she noted that the World Health Organization (WHO) and health authorities worldwide are closely monitoring the disease due to its high mortality rate of around 50%.
Dr. Dabarera explained that Ebola affects both humans and certain animals, including primates, and spreads through direct contact with infected blood or other bodily fluids.
She said the Ministry of Health has already activated preparedness plans and conducted simulation exercises in line with WHO guidelines to strengthen response capacity.
She further noted that enhanced monitoring has been introduced for travellers arriving from Ebola-affected countries, while suspected cases identified at ports of entry are immediately referred to the Epidemiology Unit for follow-up action.
