Sri Lanka’s Health Ministry has introduced strict price controls on 350 types of medicines, marking a major shift in the country’s pharmaceutical regulatory framework, Health and Mass Media Minister Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa announced.
He explained that the initiative aims to ensure fair pricing and improve affordability for patients, noting that the new regulations will significantly reduce the prices of several medicines currently on the market.
The Minister added that the price control system is designed to curb excessive profit margins, prevent arbitrary price increases, and strengthen monitoring of the pharmaceutical sector. The move, he said, will help guarantee that essential medicines remain accessible and affordable for the public.
