The Health Ministry has launched an urgent investigation into the Ondesterone Injection, a vaccine imported from India and distributed during the current government’s tenure, following concerns that it may contain bacterial toxins.
A directive issued yesterday (30) instructs hospitals across the country to report any symptoms or complications observed in patients after receiving the vaccine, along with details of any tests conducted on the injection at their facilities.
Earlier, the Medicines Regulatory Authority stated that tests carried out at the Kandy National Hospital had detected bacterial toxins in the vaccine. However, according to Dr. Chamal Sanjeewa and Mr. Ravi Kumudesh, the full report from the Authority’s Quality Control Laboratory has yet to be released, nearly two weeks later.
Authorities have urged all hospitals to submit the requested information without delay to support the ongoing investigation.
