Opposition MP Harsha de Silva has criticized the Government’s management of SriLankan Airlines, alleging that the loss-making national carrier is seeking an additional Rs. 100 billion in state funding.

Speaking to a television channel, he claimed that despite continued financial losses, the airline has requested further financial support from the Government.

De Silva also expressed concern over the airline’s leadership, stating that SriLankan Airlines has been without a Chief Executive Officer for nearly one and a half years and is currently operating without a chairman.

He further questioned the transparency of key appointments made to the airline and raised concerns about possible conflicts of interest involving a former chairman.

The opposition lawmaker argued that the public deserves clear answers regarding the airline’s management, stressing that issues related to funding, governance, and leadership require greater accountability and oversight.
