Commentator and Cheek Media co-founder Hannah Ferguson has announced her bid to challenge Prime Minister Anthony Albanese for his Sydney seat of Grayndler.

The 28-year-old plans to run as an independent candidate at the next federal election.

Ferguson says she wants to bring better local representation and believes Australians are increasingly frustrated with the traditional political system.

She has previously considered running for the Senate but has now chosen to contest her home electorate.

Ferguson says she plans to step away from her media business next year to focus on her political campaign full-time.

Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has held Grayndler for many years, making Ferguson’s challenge a closely watched contest in Australian politics.
