Hanif Yusoof appointed as president’s special envoy for foreign investment

President Anura Kumara Dissanayake has appointed Western Province Governor Hanif Yusoof as the President’s Special Envoy for Foreign Investment.

The appointment, made under Article 41(1) of the Constitution, recognizes Yusoof’s extensive experience in global investment partnerships, his contributions to Sri Lanka’s private sector, and his potential to assist in the Government’s economic revival programme, the President’s Media Division (PMD) said.

As Special Envoy, Yusoof will be responsible for facilitating high-level engagement with international investors and strategic partners, strengthening investor confidence, and supporting efforts to attract Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) to Sri Lanka. His duties also include identifying and promoting key investment opportunities and coordinating closely with the Board of Investment (BOI), the Export Development Board (EDB), the Port City Commission, and relevant ministries.

According to the PMD, the initiative aims to create a favourable environment for sustainable foreign investment, reinforce international confidence in Sri Lanka’s economic stability, and accelerate national economic growth.

Mr. Hanif Yusoof will serve in this position on an honorary basis, in addition to his current role as Governor of the Western Province.
