Hakgala Botanical garden reopens to tourists

The Hakgala National Botanical Garden, which was closed following the impact of Cyclone Ditwah, has been reopened to tourists from today, the Ministry of Environment announced.

The reopening was carried out in accordance with recommendations and instructions issued by the National Building Research Organisation (NBRO) and the Disaster Management Centre (DMC), the Ministry said.

Due to the presence of hazardous ground conditions, certain areas—particularly the pond area near the main entrance and access roads leading toward the forest park—have been temporarily cordoned off.

Warning signs have been installed to prevent visitors from entering these restricted zones. To ensure the safety and convenience of both local and foreign tourists, the Botanical Garden staff has also organised a special assistance programme.

The Hakgala Botanical Garden was previously closed due to the disaster situation caused by Cyclone Ditwah, and has now been successfully reopened to the public within a short period.
