To advance the country toward a digital society, three new digital initiatives will be launched on 7th of February at the Presidential Secretariat under the patronage of President Anura Kumara Dissanayake.
The key initiatives include:
- GovPay Platform: A comprehensive system for digitalizing all government payments to reduce fraud and increase efficiency.
- President’s Fund Expansion: Extending services from Colombo to 341 regional offices, enabling the public to register and access services more efficiently through new technology.
- Electronic Birth, Marriage, and Death Certificates (EBMD): Allowing Sri Lankans abroad to obtain certified copies of birth, marriage, and death certificates electronically through diplomatic missions.
Deputy Minister of Digital Economy Engineer Eranga Weeraratne emphasized that these initiatives are in line with the President’s vision to transition Sri Lanka into a digital society. He highlighted the importance of digital payments in providing secure and convenient services to the public while reducing cash-based payment fraud.
Roshan Gamage, Senior Additional Secretary to the President, stated that expanding the President’s Fund would bring its services closer to the people and ensure appropriate service delivery.
M.K. Padmanadan, Additional Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, explained that the EBMD system will directly connect consular offices with the Registrar General’s Department, streamlining the certificate issuance process for Sri Lankans abroad.
Harsha Purasinghe, Chairman of the Information and Communication Technology Agency of Sri Lanka (ICTA), announced that detailed information about GovPay will be available on the www.GovPay.lk website starting 7th of February.
