The government will provide Rs. 500,000 in relief to each household affected by the Ditwah cyclone without conducting individual damage assessments, Minister of Public Security Ananda Wijepala said.
Addressing a “Praja Shakthi” awareness programme at the Kobeigane Divisional Secretariat, the Minister explained that carrying out detailed assessments for more than 120,000 partially damaged houses could take up to a year, significantly delaying assistance.
He noted that families who prefer a formal damage assessment may opt out of the scheme, in which case compensation will be determined based on the assessed damage and could amount to several million rupees.
The initiative, he said, is intended to ensure swift financial relief for households affected by the cyclone.
